Self-Study Courses

Additional Reference Page

Our self-study courses provide a mix of conceptual and procedural learning through online reading and interactivity. Our lessons begin with the "big picture" by introducing a concept through background information. We then present details and procedures in small, easy-to-understand segments.

Navigation

When you open a course, a new browser window is opened. However, instead of seeing your browser's navigational tools, you'll see a course banner at the top of the page that contains navigational tools for the course. This banner allows you to navigate through the course pages and keep track of where you are.

Training Instructions

The following components appear in some or all of our self-study courses:

Activities launch a new page with real world simulations of an application. They guide you step-by-step to learn tasks and procedures.
A Show Me launches a new page with a real world demonstration of how an activity is done. Show Me's are utilized in the courses that have users work on an application on their own machine (rather than a simulation).
Quizzes are interactive Q&A sessions that allow you to self-check your knowledge of material covered in a preceding topic.
Knowledge Builders are displayed along with concepts within the course pages. They provide an interesting interactive way to learn about concepts or topics.

Concepts are delivered through textual material on a web page and provide background information about each topic within the course. The graphics indicate the beginning (pen writing on pad) and end (pen placed beside pad) of a particular concept.
Graphics
Graphics are intermixed within concepts to add visual references for better online learning.
Tips add additional information pertaining to a selected concept or procedure.
Wrap Up Quizzes are located at the end of each lesson and serve as a review to the objectives of each lesson.
The course tools icon links you to a new page where you can download any required tools you may need for the course. Some of these tools might be staged files that we have prepared for you or other utilities that will assist you.

Completion

When you reach the end of each topic, you can continue to the next topic using the right arrow key on the course banner. When you've completed a topic within a tutorial, a check mark will be placed next to the topic title on the course syllabus page.

When you reach the end of the lesson, you will see a "Congratulations!" page. At that point you can do a simple check of what you have learned, review any topics within that lesson, or exit the course. When you complete a course, the course is then moved to My Past Courses on the My Courses page.
